Who we are

A women-led organisation, working where it lives

Education is a powerful vaccine against disease, poverty and ignorance.

Childcare Support and Education Organisation works with vulnerable children, youth and women in the rural communities of Kazo District, Uganda. Since 2014 we have supported 1,200 children from nursery through to university: orphans, child mothers, children who had already dropped out, and children whose families simply could not meet the cost of school.

We are registered in Uganda and in the United States as a 501(c)(3), and we publish our audited accounts for every year. That record is what earned us our first partnership, with the Rotary Club of Greater Van Nuys, who funded our move into water and sanitation in 2021.

What we do

Three connected programs

A child cannot learn in an unsafe school. A family cannot keep a child in school without an income. Real change needs all three, so we run all three.

Education

Child support and rural schools improvement

Fees, uniforms, books and mentoring for children at risk of dropping out, and the classrooms, desks and kitchens that make a school worth attending.

Safe water, sanitation and hygiene

Boreholes, water point repair, separate latrines for girls and boys, handwashing and menstrual health support, so that a school day does not cost a child their health.

Youth and women skills development

Practical trades, business and savings skills, tools and mentoring for school leavers and young mothers, so training ends in an income rather than a certificate.

Twelve years of walking with the same children

Nobody finishes school because of one term's fees. These two were supported from nursery onwards.

What we are asking for

Two projects are costed and waiting

Both have been assessed with the school or the community, priced and quoted. Ask for either brief and we will send it with the itemised budget.

Water Repair the water system at Destiny Primary School
An independent technical assessment, a repair plan, a trained water committee and a written maintenance plan. The system built in 2021 no longer runs reliably, and we say so publicly.

Skills Repair and equip the tailoring workshop
Five of ten donated sewing machines are not working. This covers repairs and parts, fabric and thread, and a properly paid trainer, so a class can practise at once instead of taking turns.
